How to sand Hardwood floors |
Sanding proces |
|
1. Sweep and clean the old floor. Before sanding, close all gaps and glue creaky and loose parquet. We use special tools and glue for parquet which allow for expansion and movement.
2. Coarse-sand large areas with belt sander (grit sandpaper 24) and then perpendicular coarse-sanding (grit 36) unless the floor is even. 3. Medium-grit sanding with 60 grit. This cut crosses the previous cut - perpendicular to it. Before you stop the sander and start to go back, do not forget to lift the drum! Otherwise you will make a hole. 4. After using the big sander, use an edge sander for corners and along the walls. Start with 40 grit and work down to fine sandpaper. Start with 60 or 80 grit if you want to stain or oil your floor. Otherwise it will be very hard to smooth off scratches left by 40-grit or coarser paper. 5. After coarse sanding, vacuum and fill joints. The filler is made from the sanded dust of your floor after the 60-grit sanding. We mix dust and special glue and apply it to the gaps. After 30 min, we repeat the filling process where filler has shrunk into joints. After 1 hour, when filler is dry, we can sand the floor again. We use 80-grit to sand off rest of filler. read more... Generally all sanding jobs and renew the old parquet, floor boards and semi-solid floors are completed with specialised sanders. The best known brands world-wide are Lagler and Bona. They offer many types and size of sanding machines for the best result. Of course they come with dust free technology.
We can sort the sanding machines to a few groups. The main groups are big heavy sanders for the rough job, to remove old dirt, varnish, paint, etc. These sanders can weigh from 40 up to 90 kg. The gneral rule is: the heavier the sander, the easier it is to sand the floor. If the sander is not heavy enough it does not apply enough on the floor so the process has to be repeated several times. If you want to see the best way to sand a wooden floor click here. |
